A Reminder

Dear Secretary,
Can you please remind your members that the Great Northern Festival is taking place this coming weekend from the 5th – 7th December
The event is taking place at the Hough End Conference Centre which is just off the M60 orbital motorway and near the end of the M56 in south Manchester. The Centre is situated on Mauldeth Road West with a postcode of M21 7SX,
The weekend commences at 7.30pm on the Friday 5th December with:
All from a Single Picture… Drama! Creativity! Tears! Romance! Laughter!
An evening of classic films from the IAC’s huge collection – the best from Britain and Europe.
The evenings presentation will be made by
Val Ellis FACI, a former chairman and the first lady President of the IAC
and
David Andrew, journalist and business films sciptwriter.
From documentaries to humour & animation, the show will cover the cream of what can be achieved in moving pictures.
Both are members of the Cheadle & Gatley Film Makers.
David comments:
” The programme will involve a very varied range of the best of the IAC’s international competition from recent years. Many films are British-made but some are from abroad, including very clever and ingenious animations, some exceedingly well-made documentaries, some dramas with very high production values, and comedy. Films to make you laugh, cry and leave you aghast with admiration.
There is much to learn from these films, which are an inspiration to all in a very high-quality show.”
Saturday 6th December at 10am sees the first of our two national Audio Visual competitions – the New Horizons which is a restricted entry commpetition open only to entrants who have not won an award in any National or International AV competition. The big plus is that the judges will constructively comment on every sequence after they have been shown – so that we all learn.
The prizegiving for this competition is followed by the Great Northern Competition itself.
Sunday 7th December, again commencing at 10am, sees the conclusion of the Great Northern Competition.
Following this, whilst the judges are deliberating on the winners, we are holding one of the popular Attendees Sequence sessions where work in progress or completed can be shown for constructive comment.
The weekend concludes with the Award Ceremony when we hope to show the winning sequeces.
Advance booking via the website at www.gnfestival.org.uk is recommended or, subject to seats being available, you can pay on the door.
If you require lunches on the Saturday or Sunday you must book these with us in advance and also if you wish to attend the Saturday evening meal.
Further details can be obtained from bookings@gnfestival.org.uk
We look forward to seeing you there.
John Smith
Secretary of the Great Northern AV Committee
