A Winter’s Tale
A winter week away in England on the face of it does not sound that appealing. But for me and my wife it is. If you pick the right location, and there are many you can have a great time and see nice things without the crowds of summer visitors.
Bath and the Bath area has always been a favourite spot for us. This area is dotted with wonderful quaint English villages and scenery. Bath is a wonderful city with tonnes of history.
Although our trip was not all about photography I/we managed to do plenty. I am lucky as my wife also like photography. From the outset I wanted to take somewhat different images ‘from the norm’.
I know Bath would be busy at times due to the fact that had their Christmas market, rated as one of the best and busiest. That actually worked in my favour, as I wanted to capture the ‘hustle and bustle’ of the crowds. But against that I also wanted to show the places of tranquillity within such a large city.
Around Bath we visited a few wonderful villages and towns, such as Bradford – upon – Avon, Castle Combe and Lacock and its abbey. Again I tried to capture these places in a somewhat different way, using HDR.
Another reason for visiting Bath at this time of year is so we could see Westonbirt Arboretum’s enchanted Christmas. This is when they illuminate many of the wonderful trees.
I took my Lensbaby kit alongside my wide angle and 74-105 lenses. I used 2 camera bodies. 7d & 5dmkII. I also used a tripod for many shots, but all my lensbaby photographs were handheld.
